Sports Capital Grant

Rathdown School and Monkstown Hockey Club have been awarded a €19,000 Sports Capital Grant following successful appeal of their 2017 Application.

Rathdown School and Monkstown Hockey Club have secured a Sport Capital Grant to replace fencing and provide replacement and additional hockey goals and mini hockey goals at Rathdown School, Glenageary, Co Dublin. The project has a total cost of €21,405. Since addition of a 2nd pitch, supported by a 2014 capital grant, Monkstown Hockey Clubs playing membership has increased to 848 in 2017 (including 520 Girls) from 435 in 2014. Fencing and goals on the older pitch need replacement and both pitches require additional goals for small sided games and training due to the increased playing membership.

The Hockey facilities at Rathdown enjoy extensive Community use with Dalkey School Project, Kill of the Grange National School, Glenageary Killiney National School, Albert Ladies, Southside School Partnership and Buzz Hockey being regular users of the facilties. Since the opening of the Merrion Fleet Arena Rathdown has hosted International Hockey Series involving the National Women’s Team, U21 Interprovincials and Hockey Ireland play offs. It has become one of the premier venues for Hockey in Ireland.

Monkstown Hockey Club and Rathdown School would like to pay particular thanks to the Minister of State for Higher Education Mary Mitchell O’Connor T.D whose support during the application and appeals process was of great assistance in securing the grant.
