Super Sunday in the Academy!

Sunday was a busy day for the Academy as Storm Brian passed and the sun came out. The day started with our 1st – 6th class girls playing matches against their counterparts from Muckross. Then after our 1st and 2nd year girls trained it was the boys turn and we hosted our U8 Blitz. 16 teams from 7 different clubs took part and Rathdown was buzzing.      At the same time on the other pitch our U12 boys hosted a team from Bray. Next up was a fantastic 18 team U10 Blitz with lots of future stars on display. Finally, the day was rounded off with U14 and U16 league games. Meanwhile over in St Joseph of Cluny our Intermediate girls hosted a team from Loreto. A huge thanks to our sponsor Lewis Motors, to all the clubs who took part, our coaches, our U16s who helped umpire the blitzes and to the parents who provided yummy sandwiches and treats to keep the energy levels up. Over 600 boys and girls playing hockey in Rathdown in one day – that has to be good!

Christmas Party

The Monkstown Christmas Party will take place on Saturday 25th November in the Club in Dalkey!

Christmas dress is essential so dust of the Christmas Jumpers!

Club Night!

The first Club night of the season will take place on Saturday the 7th October from 8pm in The Club in Dalkey! Looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the new season with a great night!

Richard Mason

It is with great sadness that Monkstown Hockey Club have learned of the passing of Richard Mason after

a brief illness. Richard was a former 1st Team Coach as well as a superb mentor and loyal friend to many of

us in the Town. He will be sadly missed by us all.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Daf, sons Tim and Rob at this very sad time.

May he rest in peace.

Men’s Welcome Back Day!!

The Men’s Section will hold a welcome back to hockey day on Saturday the 26th 2-6pm in Rathdown! All levels are invited to attend and there will be a BBQ running all afternoon! Look forward to seeing all the old faces back and maybe some new too! Spread the word! 🏑☀️🍔

Welcome to the New Season

After a very hectic 2016/2017 season which included the merger with Hermes Hockey Club, the new season is fast approaching. I hope you are all enjoying the break and will return energised for what promises to be another full on season.

 

Last year saw a number of key events both on and off the field and included Strictly 2, the Ball and the Club Nights in Dalkey.

 

On the field we hosted the IHL playoffs for the 2nd year and did it very successfully, we hosted a number of SoftCo Super Saturdays, we have introduced the Strikers to our Club and this will develop over the coming years. It was also a season tinged with sadness where we lost our good friends, Peter and Noel.

 

This new season will bring new challenges both on and off the pitch. We have set a very high standard on both the men’s and ladies playing side over the past number of years with both our teams participating on finals day in the EY Champions weekend. Our ladies also participated in the European Club Championships in the Netherlands.

 

The Club is committed to maintaining these high standards and has been working to put in place a continuing high performance programme for both first team squads. Various announcements will be made over the next few weeks and we will be setting out our goals for the next 3-4 years as we strive to move the bar even higher.

 

We are recognised as one of the top clubs in Ireland for developing youth and we also have an excellent reputation in Europe for the quality of our teams and players, this will continue and it is expected there will be further opportunities for all our young players to travel during the season throughout Ireland and further afield.

 

We have submitted an application to host the Women’s European Trophy next May, this will be a big challenge and a step up from our previous involvements in the IHL playoffs, however, I am confident that everyone in the Club will rally around and offer their time and skills to ensure we put on a first class weekend. Further details on this will follow in due course.

 

 

 

The training programmes and start dates together with the early league match details will be forwarded by the club captains over the next couple of weeks. For the Club to operate efficiently we need the support and commitment from many Club members.

 

Over the last number of years we have strived to create a special environment in the Club at all levels. It is important that all members and supporters look to see how they can contribute to the running of the club in whatever small way or time commitment they can give. There are plenty of jobs and roles and we will be issuing a map of how you can feed into those over the next 2-3 weeks. Please step forward, be part of it, this is special.

 

The future is exciting and we have some great talent in our Academy that will flow through to our Senior Teams in due course, these young people must be encouraged as they aspire to play on the top teams in the Club and further beyond. The structure is in place, the commitment is there and now it is time for the members to play their part.

 

I look forward to meeting you over the coming season and hopefully you will participate fully in the club and introduce friends to come and watch our teams play.

*Wanted* Men’s Section Coaches/Managers

We are currently recruiting people for the roles of Coach/Manager for the Mens 3rd, 4th and 5th Teams
These teams compete in Leinster Senior Leagues 3, 5 and 6 and there is a possibility that a 6th Team may be
added for the coming season.

It is important that each Team Captain is supported by a Coach and/or Manager.

Duties will mainly be confined
to match days and will include Team structure, management of team supplies and general administration.

Experience, while useful is not essential and we wish to appeal to all of the Hockey family ,including parents
to make themselves available for these important roles.

The success of our Club is due to our willing volunteers and we are asking for your help, no matter how small
in maintaining and improving our standards.
