Ladies Teams Round-Up April 2017
The L1s are currently second in the EYHL with a game in hand (they play Pegasus this Saturday away). UCD currently sit ahead of them. The final game of the EY League v UCD on 1st April looks set to be the decider. Rudi and Gareth have done great work with the team this year and we wish them every success as they prepare for the EY Champions Trophy and the EHCC in Den Bosch this June. Huge thanks to Nikki Evans as captain and Suzie Kelly as vice-captain this season.
This team was captained by Eilis Smith with Lily Beresford as vice. They finished the season in 6th place in the league. The team competed for the first time in the IHT and Jacqui Potter Cup this season. Coach Dean Maguire has laid the groundwork for a strong squad in the seasons to come and hopefully we can build on the experience gained this season.
The L3s have had a tough season, with the relegation battle came down to the very last day with 4 teams fighting to stay up. Unfortunately, Monkstown lost out, finishing 9th, so will be competing in Division 4 next season. Thanks to Ian Horsfield and Gav Groves for coaching the team this year. Thank you to Amy O’Dwyer for once again serving as a fantastic captain to this team.
Ali Shaw captained the 4s, who gained promotion to Division 5 by finishing 2nd in Division 6 with a mix of youth and experience. Didi Cole and Trevor Watkins coached this team and there is a lot of developing talent within this squad.
Mary Kirwan and Nikkey Cullen coached the L5s, who won the Division 7 title (the second year in a row that Monkstown have claimed this title). They also reached the semi-final of the Division 7/8 Cup but were knocked out by a very strong UCD side who finished second in the league. Many thanks to Helen Kilroy and Grainne Wall as co-captains of this team.
The L6s finished the season bottom of the table in Division 8. Despite their lack of form team morale has been great with captain Sophie Sarratt leading the group. AJ Beatty did great work developing the team as the season progressed. Division 9 should suit the team better and hopefully we will be fighting for promotion next year.
The vets enjoyed their second season in the Leinster Ladies Vets League. The Hermes and Monkstown vets teams merged mid-season to boost numbers for both teams. We are currently recruiting players for this team for next season, with all new players welcome.
