A week of ups and downs!

Commiserations to the Mens 1’s who narrowly lost the Mills Cup Final V Glenanne. After full time finished 2-2 it went to 1 on 1’s and Glenanne prevailed. Congratulations to the Glens.

Congratulations to Lee Cole and the Irish Men who won WL2 in Belfast over the weekend. They have now won back to back WL2’s and qualify for WL3 during the summer. Brilliant work by Lee and the Green Machine!

Sports Capital Grant

Rathdown School and Monkstown Hockey Club apply for Sports Capital Grant to support growth in numbers playing Hockey.

Rathdown School Trust and Monkstown Hockey Club are jointly applying for a Sport Capital Grant to replace fencing and provide replacement and additional hockey goals and mini hockey goals at Rathdown School, Glenageary, Co Dublin. The project has a total cost of €21,405 and the applicants seek a Grant of €19,000 to complement their own funds. Since addition of a 2nd pitch, supported by a 2014 capital grant, Monkstown Hockey Clubs playing membership has increased to 848 in 2017 (including 390 Girls) from 435 in 2014. Fencing and goals on the older pitch need replacement and both pitches require additional goals for small sided games and training due to the increased playing membership.

The Hockey Facilities at Rathdown enjoy extensive Community use with Dalkey School Project, Kill of the Grange National School, Glenageary Killiney National School, Albert Ladies, Southside School Partnership and Buzz Hockey. Since the opening of the Merrion Fleet Arena Rathdown has host International Hockey Series involving the National Women’s Team, U21 Interprovincials and Hockey Ireland play offs. It has become one of the premier venues for Hockey in Ireland.

Rathdown School and Monkstown Hockey Club anticipate significant support for this development and look forward to the approval of this application for a Sport Capital Grant.
