Girls up to 6th class play matches against other clubs on a regular basis. These are mixed ability teams and the emphasis is on fun and participation. The girls are encouraged to try out the skills they have learned at training and learn to play together as part of a team. The format for matches is in line with the IHA development plan – Fun Fours up to 3rd class, Super Sixes in 4th and 5th, moving onto Extreme 8’s in 6th class. The teams are randomly selected so the girls get to know and play with more people encouraging new friendships.
1st year and up the girls play in leagues. Each girl will play on a team which are selected according to merit. There are a number of factors taken into consideration in team selection including ability, progression, player position, as well as effort and attendance at training and matches. Teams are always open to change throughout the season and we ask that parents respect the coaches’ opinion.
For matches all girls up to and including 2nd years must wear:
Monkstown HC polo shirt
Navy skirt / shorts
It is also compulsory to wear a gum shield and shin pads.
All the above is available from Grandstand Sports in Dun Laoghaire but is also available for ordering in Rathdown at the start of each season.
