COVID-19 Update

I hope you are staying safe and well in these challenging and truly amazing times. With varying degrees of emotion, it is now understood that the 2019/20 season is over and for all Leinster competitions and you will be able to view the outcomes next week. In very difficult circumstances, Leinster have arrived at the fairest method to conclude this season.

It is important we use this time to stay physically and mentally fit to prepare us all for the return to the sport we love. The spirit and commitment to our club will be vital in rising again from this suspension. With that said, if you have any suggestions or ideas for future seasons, our Executive Committee would be delighted to hear from you.

Regarding Leinster competitions, there is likely to be a complete review of our leagues & cups to add certainty to the calendar and to add to the enjoyment for all. Our club, one of the largest in Ireland, can lead on all developments – we have the strength, skills and members who can provide this.

It is important to acknowledge the huge contribution by our members and their friends who are working on the frontline in the HSE, care-homes and all those playing a critical role in keeping the supply lines open. We are really proud of you all.

It is also very important we keep in touch with our older members who are subject to some of the most severe restrictions – a phone call, delivering key items and letting them know you are there to support them during this time.

As members of the Monkstown Hockey Family, I am certain you will stand up and play your part. This is a time for each of you to make a special contribution to your club and community.

Until we meet again pitch side, stay safe and well,

Trevor Watkins

President, Monkstown Hockey Club
