Monkstown Strikers was set up in April 2016 by Sheena Kenning, Ruby Morrow and Andrew Gaw. Monkstown Strikers was set up for people with an intellectual disability from 10+ up to any age.
The Strikers started with a 6 week trial period in May 2016. This trial period was coached by Mick McKinnon, current Irish ladies assistant coach. September 2016 was the Monkstown Strikers first full season where we ran 4 blocks of 6 session each and trained on a Tuesday night from 7pm – 8pm.
During the 2016 – 2017 season, Monkstown Strikers played several matches against the Three Rock Rover Rockets and since then, several other clubs have set up a parahockey team – Railway Railblazers, Loreto Lions and Botanic Blitzers have joined the community! Parahockey in Ireland is growing from strength to strength
This current season, the Monkstown Strikers have 12 playing members, and have a lot of great volunteer coaches helping out every block. We hosted the biggest Irish Parahockey Blitz in Ireland to date in October 2019 and we are looking forward to the continuos growth of the ParaHockey community .
